Nica’s story – from straight to plus

Meet Nica, a 17 year old Dutchie with gorgeous curves and killer eyebrows.

When I met her, she was a 16 year old girl with a strong desire to model, but also with a growing frustration because agencies kept telling her she needed to lose weight and inches in order to make it in fashion. Totally stupid advice if you ask me, because if you already have that bodytype at such a young age, chances of getting to fashion-standard size without crazy and possibly dangerous diets are pretty much nonexistent. It was so clear: this girl was meant to be curvy.

So I asked her if she had ever considered plussize modeling, explained what it was and pointed her to an agency that had a board dedicated to plussize girls, mostly on the smaller side of plus. Perfect for her!

Now we’re a couple months later, and she’s signed with a great agency and starting to book jobs. I can’t wait to see how her career will develop, and I’m so happy that she will be able to do it with a healthy attitude towards her body and size. Go Nica!

modeling; back to basic

I remember when I first started as a model, I was drawn to over the top concepts, crazy styling and weird poses. I look back at those pictures with a smile, don’t get me wrong, but I’m also glad that I let go of the craziness (well… for the most part…) and learned to appreciate beauty in the simple things. So I’m really happy with these pictures, shot by Marieke Penne with make up by Laura Boegborn.

thanks team!
