Beautiful words by the equally beautiful Lana del Rey… and the first words that came to mind when I saw the results of this shoot I did a couple of weeks ago. It was a glorious fall, with very mild weather and sunshine every day. I love this time of year, when fall is in full motion but there is still a nostalgic hint of summer every now and then… By accident, I discovered there was a very quiet and abandoned garden literally across the street from where I live (hidden behind an old and vacated house). I think there is so much beauty to be found in decaying places like this one.
So I grabbed a skirt and top, put on a pair of boots and we just shot for an hour or so, enjoying the sun, really laidback, no pressure… Very unlike me haha! I tend to plan my shotos well ahead and I like to exercise control in all things (starting to sound a lot like Mr. Grey here…), but ever since I was diagnosed with diabetes and hospitalized a couple of months ago, I decided that for now the most important thing with doing photoshoots is to just relax and have a great time… So that’s what I’ve been doing! Hope you like the results!
I’m not a stylist. I’m a woman with a great interest in fashion and a desire to learn. It’s certainly a huge dream to be able to work in fashion one day and I’d be so ecstatic if I could one day call myself a stylist… but for now I’m really just happy to be working hard and learning along the way, one babystep at a time. So when I was asked to style a photoshoot with 9 models (myself included, as if I wasn’t challenged enough haha) in various shapes and sizes, combing my love of styling, modeling and diversity…ofcourse I said yes!
long day + bunch of bored models = a LOT of selfies
I could talk for days about my love for diversity in fashion, but I’ll try to keep it short and sweet this time ;).
Dutch plussize agency Maxime Models wanted to do a photoshoot involving a selection of their models, to showcase on their website. We shot plussize models in different shapes, ethnicities and sizes, from size 10 to 18 (EU40 to 48). What personally tends to annoy me about plussize fashion, is that it’s so seperate and different from “regular” fashion. I really didn’t want that for this shoot, I wanted it to have a fashionfeel.
In retrospect, I kind of stayed close to my own personal style, with all black looks, keeping it very clean with no accessories. A little bit sexy, a little bit of an attitude and letting the curves do the talking. Every girl is different, but beautiful in her own way.
Check out the finished result!
It was a lot of work, but I had so much fun styling this and I learned so much! And honestly, when you’re doing something you really love, it doesn’t feel like work. I’m so proud of the result!
